Everybody’s been there. You have a problem and it looks like there is no good way to solve it. You have options, but no matter which one you choose, the outcome is not what you desire. In spite of your best efforts, somebody’s going to get hurt, there still won’t be enough money, you’ll run out of time, and you’ll end up no better off than you are now. You’re caught between a rock and a hard place.
My sister Judy has been there for a while. She’s prone to recurring urinary tract infections. She had a severe one about a year ago that damaged her kidneys so badly that it looks like before long she’ll need dialysis. When she gets one, the doctor prescribes an antibiotic to kill the infection so the infection won’t do more harm to her kidneys. But antibiotics are hard on the kidneys so no matter what, it’s not good for her kidneys. Caught between a rock and a hard place.
But God reminded me that if we belong to him, we’re not between A rock and a hard place; we’re between THE rock and a hard place. No matter how difficult our circumstances or impossible things seem, God is sovereign and he’s bigger than our problems. Psalm 18:2 says, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock in whom I take refuge.” And Isaiah 26:4 says, “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal.”
Lord, help me to turn my face from the hard place and lean hard on you – my Rock!
